About Us

Welcome to Art for Animals, Sandra Murphy is an artist who can be found working from St Ives, Sydney Australia.

Her art practice is based on relationships between the coloniser and the environment. Sandra’s work focuses on feral and native animals of Australia, both historical associations and current impacts within these realms. She uses anthropomorphism as a satire to create narrative-based artworks.

"My passion has always been the environment and a love for Australias unique and awesome looking animals, I love everything about them, their locomotion, their quirky characteristics, their predatory methods, whether they hang solo or love living together.

Those little pigmy possums with big eyes and little paws clinging to the banksia flowers make me melt, or those mini-tank wombats powering through the scrub bowling over everything in their path.

I've travelled to many of the special places of Australia, Kakadu being one of my favourites. Rich with diversity, cultural history, and the Yellow Water cruises can’t be missed... An abundance of wildlife from the big snapping jaws of the salty crocks to our fine feathery friends who return from their migratory trips yearly. I could go on but...

Art for Animal's purpose is to create a platform for expressing and promoting the issues our Australian Flora and Fauna are dealing with, and encourage change through education and art.
